Introducing some Autonomy tartan inspiration. Developed by award winning art director, artist and car lover @jimparry last year, these tartans are earmarked for future Autonomy products. Think seat covers, storage solutions, grocery bags, number plate frames, pet restraints and more. So why tartan? The brief to Jim (delivered over a schooner of Guinness at the Lord Dudley hotel) was to design something that would bring some of the heritage and fine detail of the world's most revered performance cars into an everyday drive. Prints that were timeless, but also playful and modern for drivers of all ages and stages - that just happen to be beautiful and practical too.
At Autonomy, we have been inspired by the story of Gunhild Liljequist - the brilliant, but unheralded, female designer who introduced plaid to the VW Golf GTI in the 1970s. Gunhild was also responsible for the dimpled, golf ball feature on the iconic GTI gearstick. These are two of the GTI's most loved and enduring design features which still remain (in some form or another) in all GTIs today.
